KW Suspension at the Nurburgring
Latest News - August 2005:
Sport Auto Magazine are the 'official recorders'
of the Nürburgring Nordschleife lap record for "road
approved
vehicles" (Cars must be capable for road registration in Germany,
run E marked road tyres and fuel pump). Patrick Simon went out for what
must be the worlds greatest track challenge, in an excellently prepared
and equipped 612 hp Porsche 996 GT 2 RS with RECARO Pro-Racer seats and
KW Variant 3 coilovers from tuner Edo Competition.
For quite some time, Wolfgang Kaufmann held
the lap record of 7.32.52 in a Gemballa Porsche, he lost his record to
Horst von Saurma in a Porsche Carrera GT, who beat Kaufmann with a lap
time of 7.32.44.
On 25th October 2004, Michael Düchting raised the stakes considerably,
when he smashed the record, setting a lap time 7.18.01 in a Donkervoort
RS. (This also beat the 'unofficial record' of 7.19 set by Phil Bennett
in August 2003 in the Radical SR3 Turbo - the Radical is not road legal
in Germany)
On Thursday 4th August 2005, driver Patrick Simon and the Edo Competition 996 topped it all. The Donkervoorts spectacular record was broken after less than one year. With a 7.15.63 lap.
Simon had not doubted his success for one
minute
here is his quote following the record breaking lap!
"The Nürburgring Nordschleife is one of the most difficult tracks
with so many different grip levels because of different road surfaces,
weather conditions, etc
so the suspension had a huge impact in the
result. The cooperation with KW
suspension was absolutely the right choice as such a partner really
understands how to provide the perfect material and know-how for the setup
work, allowing us to achieve this fantastic goal.
I don't think I need to make any further comment about KW's quality and performance, this says it all. And remeber this is with the KW Variant 3 road suspension (TuV approved) not a special 'competition' suspension!
